Hail damaged cars

Extreme weather, which is thought to be caused by global warming, is occurring frequently in various places, and "hail", where ice particles fall, is one of them. Especially in urban areas, the number of vehicles damaged by hail is increasing, and it can be said that this is a defect that must be noted even at the site of assessment inspection

Characteristics of hail damage "Flood vehicle", which is often associated with the word "disaster vehicle", causes damage to the entire vehicle, such as the engine, electrical system, and interior parts. On the other hand, hail-damaged vehicles are limited to "appearance damage" that causes innumerable dents. If there is a defect in the appearance, the function can be restored by replacing the panel or repairing the sheet metal. However, the reality is not so easy. The main damage caused by hail is the bonnet, roof panel, and trunk, which are called "reception surfaces" (Image ①). If the number of dents can be counted, it can be restored by sheet metal repair or dent repair. However, it is not realistic to repair innumerable dents (image ②) with sheet metal. In this case, it is best to replace and repair the roof panel, but as you all know, replacing the roof panel will be treated as a "repair history car". Therefore, if there is an exterior defect that requires replacement on the roof, not only will the evaluation be lowered, but the assessed amount will also be affected.

Is it easy to discover the current state of hail damage? If you encounter a damaged vehicle like image ② at the site of the assessment inspection, it is not so difficult to find it. However, this is just an example, and in reality, it is shallower than this, and there may be innumerable small dents left. Conspicuous deep dents are often repaired, so you must pay attention to the "repair marks on the receiving surface" including the roof panel. On the other hand, shallow and small dents are often unrepaired because they are difficult to see. In reality, it can be said that the frequency of encountering such "unrepaired hail-damaged vehicles" is higher. To discover it, just remember how the "minor dents" look. It is necessary not to miss the moment when the scenery reflected on the panel is slightly "blurred".

Repaired hail damage vehicle . Vehicles that have been severely damaged by hail will change to a "repaired" state over time. The most vigilant of these is "roof panel replacement." As mentioned above, it is treated as a repair history, so it is a defect that inspectors like us are required to carefully check to eliminate oversight as much as possible. Basically, check the joint condition (welding marks) between the roof panel and the roof member that joins it. For minivans, SUVs, and compact cars that are currently on the market, you can check the joint status from the rear gate opening (images ③ and ④). If it is a sedan shape, you can check the joint state by turning the ceiling inside the car a little (Image ⑤). For imported car models such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, you may be able to see the welding marks by opening the lid of the roof molding part (Image ⑥). This is a point that has already been incorporated into the inspector's confirmation procedure. It can be said that the number of hail-damaged vehicles is increasing.
